School Policies &  Classroom Guidelines

 Music School Program and Policies:

  • Students must turn 6 years old by February of the new year to enroll in recorder class.
  • Students must complete the Recorder Level 1 program before enrolling in Ukulele, Violin, Keyboard, Intro to Flute, or Recorder Year 2.
  • Keyboard classes provide a 2-year program only.
  • Ukulele class provides a 1-year program only.
  • Senior students with at least one year experience in instruments such as Saxophone, Cello, Violin, Trumpet, Flute, Clarinet, and Trombone, are invited to join the Orchestra or Jazz Band. Orchestra is from 10 am to 10:40 am, and Jazz Band is from 11 am to 11:40am on Saturdays. These are free bands to join.
  • All classes have limited spaces available.
  • Instrument lessons may be canceled due to the teacher's unavailability, or not reaching the minimum number of enrollments, and any refunds will be applied at the beginning of term 1.
  • From time to time a lesson may be cancelled if the teacher is sick and we are not able to find a relief teacher to cover for them. Occasional lesson cancellations are not refundable.
  • Parents/Caregivers agree to allow Birkdale North Music Centre to use photos or videos of students taken during lessons, concerts, or performance events for training or promotional purpose, if you have any concerns regarding it, please let the music school know.
  • Please keep the disabled carparks available for people who need them.
  • Refund of enrolment fees is only available where a family moves out of the North Shore area and is unable to continue the lessons, an admin fee $20 will be applied.
  • Instruments that are hired from Birkdale North Music Centre may come with accessories (such as cello stops, shoulder rests, thumbports, rosin or cleaning supplies). If these are lost, parents/caregivers are liable to replace the items at their own cost, so please make sure your child does not lose them. For students who have their own instrument they will need to provide their own accessories as necessary.
  • Clarinets and Saxophones hired from us come with one new reed at the beginning of the year. Once the reed requires replacement, parents/caregivers should purchase additional reeds. Students who bring their own instrument should supply their own reed. The teacher will be able to advise on the correct reed strength needed.
