Term 2 – 15 May 2010
Staff Changes
Sadly this term is seeing some staff changes.
Nick, our brass teacher has decided to leave as soon as a replacement has been found. He has decided that he is working too many hours and teaching is taking away from the time he can spend on his study and trumpet playing so unfortunately we lose him.
Kylie, flute and recorder teacher, will be finishing five and a half years of university at the end of this term and will be starting a job with Chapman Tripp in July. Unfortunately she has decided she doesn’t want to work Saturday mornings as well!!
Hannah Bryant will be taking over Kylie’s class and has already been in to relieve for Kylie’s classes, so the students have met her and seem to approve!
Best of luck to Nick and Kylie, and welcome to Hannah.
End of Term Concert
The end of term concert will be on Saturday 26th June. This term we are going to have two concerts: one at 9am and one at 11am. All students who have lessons before 10.45am will be in the 9 o’clock concert and all students who have lessons after 11am will be in the 11 o’clock concert unless the teacher tells the students differently. Wayne will let his students know which concert his students will attend.
All students need to be in their classrooms 15 minutes before concert time in order to tune up and get organised.
Term Dates
Term 2 finishes on 26 June for all students and term 3 will begin on Saturday 24 July and Monday 26 July.
Congratulations to the following students who have gained places in orchestras outside of music centre and school:
- Joshua Webster who plays oboe in the Aotea Youth Symphony Orchestra.
- Benjamin Webster (trumpet), Matthew Chan (violin), Alex Im (violin) and Joshua Webster (oboe) who are all in the North Shore Junior Orchestra.
Private Lessons
Jacqui Webster who teaches at music centre has a few vacancies for private piano, keyboard, recorder and violin pupils on a Monday or Friday afternoon at very reasonable rates. ph 419 1441
For Sale
Bruce Farrell, of Farrell’s Music House Ltd, Takapuna has a second hand Geimenhardt flute for sale for $499. Music Centre uses Geimenhardt flutes as they are a very good beginner’s flute and this is a good price, so if anybody is thinking of buying a flute phone Bruce on 489 7935 or go to the shop at 467 Lake Road Takapuna.
Community Notice
I have programmes for the 2010 season of community programmes at St George’s Church. These include programmes for pre-schoolers, dance classes for adults and children, cooking classes for men, and much more. If you would like a copy of the programme pick one up from music centre office.
There is also a bookfair at St George’s Church on Saturday 29th May from 9am to 3pm in the church hall.
