Welcome to Birkdale North Music Centre!
Our school caters for students between the ages of 6 and 12 years old and provides lessons in a wide range of instruments. Classes are Ministry of Education subsidized, which allows us to offer our courses at very affordable rates. The minimum age to enroll in the school is turning 6 years old by February 2025.
All new students who have never studied music before take Recorder Level 1 for their first year. This class includes music theory and teaches new students the basics of reading music and playing an instrument.
Our students are required to complete the two years of Basic Instruments before enrolling in a Main Instrument (3rd year program).
However special exemptions can be made for students who demonstrate that they can read music and who have had previous music lessons or are 9+ years old, the final decision will be at the teacher's discretion.
Our school funding is only for students aged 6-12. However, for those who will be college students, you are welcome to continue participating in our orchestra and concert band for next year but please do not enroll in our lesson programs, due to our Ministry of Education funding requirements.
