Birkdale North Music Centre Newsletter

Term 3 2011

At the end of last term I went to a performance by the North Shore Junior Orchestra and North Shore Youth Orchestra. Several of our current students are in the Junior Orchestra and ex-students are in the Youth Orchestra. I picked up a flyer for anyone who may be keen to audition for the Junior Orchestra or go to their website which is www.nsjo.org.nz.

Enrolments for 2012

I am taking enrolments for next year so if you would like to make an enrolment see me in the office for a form, or enrol online at www.birkdalenorthmusic.school.nz. If possible I would prefer payment to accompany the enrolment so that I can order books and equipment for next year, but I do appreciate that it does seem a long time to the start of next year. However, payment must be made before classes start in February 2012. If anyone would prefer to pay in instalments please see me to arrange this.

I would like to get flyers to local primary and intermediate schools and an insert in their newsletters. If anyone is willing to take these into their child’s school please let me know, I would be very grateful.

Term Dates

Term 3 finishes on Saturday 1 and Monday 3 October

Term 4 starts on Saturday 29 and Monday 31 October and finishes with our end of year concert on Saturday 10 December. As always the end of term concert will be followed by morning tea and I hope you will all stay for this.

There will be no music centre on November 26th as the school is being used as a polling station for Election Day.

Auckland Primary Principals’ Association Inc 3 Day Instrumental Course

Several students have taken the opportunity to play in this event and I wish them all the best for the course. If anyone would like to go to any of the performances and support the students from music centre details are below.

Performances will be held in Auckland Town Hall and are as follows:

Sinfonia – Tuesday 22 and Tuesday 29 November.

Festival Orchestra – Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 23 November

Concert Band – Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 30 November

Jazz Band – Tuesday 15 and Tuesday 29 November

Tickets are $16 adult and $8 child. To get tickets ask at your child’s school to see if they have a ticket order form. If they don’t see me or there may be limited door sales on the performance night.

Alex’s Fundraising Gig

Alex and his friends have a fundraising performance on 17th September, starting at 7pm, at the Sunderland Lounge, Marine Parade, Hobsonville. Tickets cost $25 per person, snacks are provided and it is a BYO event. Dress is formal (collar & tie). As well as the live performance there will be a DJ. They are fundraising for a trip to perform in Sydney.
